Supporting and empowering you on your path to wellness
Steve Barcanic is a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 25 years of experience providing counseling for children, teens, young adults, families, and parents. His primary therapeutic approach is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Steve also blends Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with mindfulness skills, creating a therapy approach that helps people learn to manage stress, face their fears, build self-confidence, and experience emotional growth.
His work with parents combines principles from the work of Jim and Charles Fay, founders of the Love and Logic parenting approach, with strategies from the Cooperative Problem Solving model created by Dr. Ross Greene. He focuses on helping parents develop greater communication and problem solving strategies with their kids, allowing them to develop a "consultant" parenting style, rather than a drill sergeant or helicopter.
Additionally, Steve helps people learn mindfulness skills and techniques, in order to become more present, patient, resilient, and self-aware. This can improve their interactions, communication, and relationships with others, while decreasing their stress, anxiety and overwhelm. Steve uses these techniques to help people build the skills necessary to develop resilience, cognitive flexibility, and greater emotional well-being.
